Joana combines two grapes that complement each other perfectly. Grenache is one of the most important grapes in Spain and especially in the Montsant region. Its bright fruit and fresh nature combine perfectly with the richer, plum-laden Merlot to create a wine with an extremely smooth texture, complex fruit profile, and drinkable nature.
Cellars Sant Rafel is a tiny family estate located in Priorat, an optimal location near the Mediterranean Sea. With the Catalan Castal Mountains for protection, the vineyards are located in small and unique location. The sea breeze (the Garbinada) brings moisture and also a cooling affect, allowing for slow and complete ripening. The winery is restoring the original dry stone walls (marges) which used to hold up man-made terraces.
