The Chateau Unang Blanc offers subtle hints of star anise and paprika on the nose before fruit takes over on the palate. White peach and pineapple flavours are most prominent and follow through to the finish. Unang's vineyards all grow on site, facing East and South and are completely surrounded by forest. It is a self-contained, isolated domaine with its own geological category: les sables d'Unang. This refers to a particular type of sandy soil that lies overtop limestone. When James and Joanna King bought Unang in 2011, there were plenty of vines in varying degrees of health. In 2003, James began to replant and everything changed. What James particularly likes in wine is elegance and depth and this site enables him to make such wine par excellence. These are high-altitude wines of freshness, vigor and minerality. All grapes are hand harvested at Unang, and the vineyard is now certified organic, the white since 2012 and the red and rose since 2013. As owners they are committed to providing quality and care in terms of vineyards, wines and the wider environment. Ensuring the development of the wines is of the highest production standards gives their wine a distinctive taste. They are working towards longer-term goals with a commitment to continued experimentation to develop and bring out the full qualities of their terroir, vines, grapes and wines.
