Bench 1775 Viognier

Bench 1775 Viognier

The Sommelier Pick for March 2025 is Bench 1775 Viognier.

The timing of the release of this dry-styled wine is perfect, as interest in Canadian wines is currently at an all-time high.

Bench 1775 is located at 1775 Naramata Road, the epicentre of the renowned Naramata Bench, a celebration of southern B.C.’s land and place. Formerly known as Paradise Ranch Winery, Bench 1775 wines are distributed throughout Canada, as well as exported to Asia.

The 30-acre waterfront property offers stunning mountain-rimmed lake views, and according to Anthony Gismondi, it is “the best patio in the world.” Pride of location and terroir is of the utmost importance and is the key underlying element of Bench 1775.

The award-winning Viognier is back for its second release, having won Double Gold at the All-Canadian Wine Championships last year. The new 2022 vintage is captivating with its delightful flavours and aromas, and is produced from 100% hand harvested Naramata Bench fruit.

The aromatics are intoxicating with notes of ripe peach, apricot skin, juicy mango, and honeysuckle. On the palate, an elegant and linear blend of Okanagan stone fruit is complemented by a hint of honey, moderate yet vibrant acidity, and a luxurious, full mouthfeel. The wine’s finish lingers, boasting a remarkable length and brightness.

This wine would pair perfectly with Asian dishes, but since it is quite dry, select dishes with only a light amount of spice heat.
