Between the rich sandstone slopes of Table Mountain and the chilly False Bay of the Atlantic, lies the Southern Hemisphere’s oldest winegrowing region; Constantia in South Africa. This region is known for producing beautifully elegant wines and this gorgeous wine is no exception.

When you pick up a bottle of Constantia Uitsig Sauvignon Blanc, you are greeted on the label by a charming little warbler, a Karoo Prinia (or Spotted Prinia) perched atop a blade of Rhodes Grass. The tiny bird is said to be miniscule, but with a loud *tseet-tseet* call that makes its diminutive presence known.

When you pour a glass of this lively and cheeky Sauvignon Blanc, it also makes its presence known with complex and elegant aromas of passionfruit and peaches, with hints of litchi, elderflower and nettles. The tropical flavours carry to the palate along with a distinctive rich cantaloupe flavour and crisp lime in its long finish.

Our little friend, the Karoo Prinia, has its tiny feet clasping a blade of Rhodes Grass, where it is perched on the wine’s label. Rhodes Grass is an effective erosion reducing grass native to South Africa that is tolerant of the saline soils of Constantia. Constantia Uitsig is deeply committed to farming as naturally as possible, using cover cropping (the Rhodes Grass plays an integral role in regenerative farming and provides grazing for the fertilizer producers) and using natural pest control, such as attracting our little warbler friend, who is a very busy and voracious insect eater.
