Domaine Gaudet Régnié Cru Beaujolais
Beaujolais, which lies between Macon and Lyon, is known for the gamay grape for red wine. There are 12 appellations with most Beaujolais wines labelled as Beaujolais AOC. Within Beaujolais are 10 Cru’s which typically stands for outstanding wines. This is where one of our winery direct purchases comes from, the Regnie region. This area was the last one designated as a Cru in 1988 and local lore says that the area was the first planted by the Romans. One of the more full-bodied red wine crus these wines typically feature raspberry and redcurrant flavours.
In 1988, Jean-Michel Gaudet took over the management of a family estate that was created in 1947. He manages 7.8 hectares of vines and produces Régnié, Beaujolais-Villages red and rosé, and Beaujolais white (Chardonnay). According to him, “Beaujolais, in the cru region, offers an alternation of vineyard landscapes in valleys with winding roads that snake between the vines.” His region offers exceptional viewpoints and lets us discover the Saône plain and the distant Alps.
Domaine Gaudet Régnié is produced using 100% Gamay grape, produced using the classic method and aged in steel vats to preserve the wine's fruity, natural character!
A bright red color with a slightly transparent finish. The nose has aromas of strawberry, raspberry, and cherry with some peppery notes. A typical fruity Gamay. The palate is velvety and soft with rounded tannins. Serve with charcuterie, a cheese platter, or roast turkey or ham dinner.
The maturity and resilience of the Mt. Boucherie winery have helped them to weather some of the great challenges that have been besetting the Okanagan in the past few years. Interruptions in supply in the near future will be sadly unavoidable due to crop damage from 2024’s January Deep freeze, followed by a difficult hot and dry summer. This wine represents a rare opportunity to savour Mt. Boucherie’s admirable style, with this Sémillon continuing to age gracefully for up to 2033.
