High Note Malbec
Start your summer out on a High Note!
High Note Malbec 2021 has arrived!
An eye catchingly fanciful label catches your eye and draws you in with a lovely brunette playing a concertina festooned with seashells, birds and flowers in full bloom. An ethereal beauty floating in the clouds.
A high note in music, well played or well sung, can be inspiring, like the voice of an angel. Our spiritual minds associate high notes with the skyward high places.
This wine hails from such a lofty abode, perhaps not of angels, but of the well-tended Malbec vineyards in the alluvial soils of Argentina’s Uco Valley. In these sub-alpine conditions, the grapes are exposed to the intense sunlight, cool temperatures and dry conditions high in the Andes foothills.
At this altitude, the very thinness of the protective ozone layer contributes to aromatic development as the action of sun’s rays beat down on the developing grapes unimpeded. There is also strong diurnal variation, or strong temperature variation between night and day, causing the increase in colour and aroma intensity in the grapes from intense daytime temperatures, then contrasted by chilly nighttime low temperatures, allowing for the preservation of acidity and freshness.
This wine offers a brilliant and deep violet colour, with black fruit aromas and flavours of rich blackberry and black cherry with a velvety texture.
The grapes for High Note wines are sourced from five vineyards with sandy loam soils, ranging in elevation 3,300 – 5,000 feet above sea level. Winemaker Leopoldo Kuschnaroff enjoys experimenting and blending from the various microclimates in the Uco Valley terroir. He added 7% Syrah for structure and 3% Cabernet Franc for softness, to finish his composition on a high note.
Enjoy this beauty in your backyard or on your balcony with a grilled tenderloin filet, topped with melting St. Agur cheese and served with fire grilled Red Shepherd peppers and chanterelles!
